Shielding materials 2
Now that we know what we have
to shield and where, we may consider what materials we are going to use.
The properties of several materials
have been extensively tested.
Specialists are Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Peter Pauli from the University of the Bundeswehr,
HF and Microwave technique, and Dr.-Ing. Dietrich Moldan, Ingenieur Office
for Environmental Analytics.
They have published several articles
and books about the subject of shielding materials.
The measurements are made
according to the schematics of
the image to the right.
The *Messobjekt* is the sample
of the to be tested shielding
material.
The sending antenna on the
outside is sending the
frequencies; they can be single
ones or complete series of f.i.
200 MHz up till 10 GHz.
The receiving antenna inside
the shielded room receives the
incoming radiation, and a
network analyser compares
the sended and received values.

Above graph only shows a block bar at only 2 frequencies.
Other graphs show the curves
how the shielding is at all frequencies from 200 MHz till 2000 MHz and from
1 GHz till 10 GHz.
A sample of those graphs can be downloaded from the
website of Dr.-Ing. Dietrich Moldan

That way the shielded factor can be determined. Because Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Peter Pauli is an independant researcher, most building biologists trust and rely on those findings as an objective evaluation.
Very popular is the book *Reduzierung
hochfrequenter Strahlung - Baustoffe und Abschirmmaterialien* by Peter Pauli
and Dietrich Moldan.
1st edition (2000): “Reduction of RF and Microwaves” with 20 pages available
in English.
2nd edition (2003)
with 60 pages available only in German.

The Berufsverband Deutscher
Baubiologen - VDB e.V. organizes seminars and other meetings where specialists
from Germany but also from other countries discuss matters about electricity
and the phone industry.
One of those specialists is Dr.-Ing. Martin Virnich, who knows (almost) everything
about measuring equipment, radiation and high frequency signals.
Dr.-Ing. Dietrich Moldan gave together with Dr.-Ing. Martin Virnich a lecture
at the 3. EMV-Tagung des VDB, 1.-2. April 2004 in Wuerzburg.
The image below comes from this lecture and shows the shielding factors of
several materials, for the frequencies of 900 MHz and 1900 MHz.
